Note that 12-year tanks are only swapped out with 12-year tanks, and the same applies to 9 and 6-year models.
For warranty purposes, you don't need a purchase receipt. The tank's serial number provides its date of manufacture for warranty purposes, so keep this information handy. Receipts are often lost over the course of 12 years.
Why You Should Consider A Heat Pump Hybrid
Starting in 2029 all electric water heaters larger than 35 gallons will be required to be heat pump hybrid models. This is part of the upcoming changes to water heaters as part 4 of the NAECA, or National Appliance Energy Conservation Act. Starting in 2026, the transition to these newer, more energy-efficient water heaters will begin. Heat pump water heaters use 50-70 percent less energy than similarly sized traditional electric tanks. This can be up to $1,000 per year less for the average Central Ohio household. These hybrid models feature traditional heating elements, serving as a backup heat source in the event of problems with the heat pump components. This backup capability makes heat pump hybrid models among the most dependable water heaters available. These units operate like a referatator in reverse. They also sound like a referagator when they operate. They also provide dehumidification as a byproduct of their operation. This means if you use a dehumidifier in your home, you can also save on that cost by having one less appliance to operate.
These water heaters perform most efficiently in large, open spaces, but all models can be ducted to the outdoors if your current electric water heater is installed in a closet. These water heaters can also drop the room temperature 3-5 degrees, which is great in the summer but may be something to keep in mind for the winter.
